Festival Hall is pleased to announce that the University of Georgia British Brass Band will be performing at Festival Hall on October 15th at 2:30 pm.
The “UGA British Brass Band” was established in August 2014, coinciding with the appointment of Philip Smith as Prokasy Professor in the Arts to the trumpet faculty of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music. Members of the band are chosen through audition each semester.
In its short history, the UGA British Brass Band has quickly become a favorite of audiences of all ages. In addition to an annual Fall and Spring Festival on campus, the band has performed numerous times in the Athens – Atlanta area. Performances have included the 2014 – 2016 UGA Holiday Concerts, the 2015 Chick-fil-A corporate headquarters’ Christmas Open House, the UGA Performing Arts Center’s Saturday Morning Club, and the 2016 UGA JanFest weekend. The band has also performed for Oconee County school music students at the Oconee County Civic Center. Because of the fellowship of the brass band community, the UGA British Brass Band has performed in joint concert with the Salvation Army Southern Territorial Band, and also “kicked off” the Red Kettle Campaign for the Athens Salvation Army at a concert at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church.
